Last Morning

Well, the rain we had been so lucky to avoid our first two days caught up to us on our last day, as we woke up to pouring rain (somehow I was actually delighted though... I didn't see enough precipitation on my summer holiday, and who knows when I'll see any again in Dubai).

We were not deterred by the shower though, and I was dying to get to the Monkey Temple that we had to miss seeing on the first day. So we took advantage of the 3-4 hours before our flight, checked out of the hotel early, and hired a taxi to take us to the Monkey Temple.

Our taxi driver was fantastic, and even stopped along the way at the Buddha Amideva Park so I could check out these three enormous statues of Sakyamuni, Chenresig, and Guru Rinpoche. Although just built in 2003, I thought they were beautiful. The intermingling of Buddhism and Hinduism in Nepal is just fascinating.

Close-up.

Marigolds. Seen sold on the streets everywhere, are symbolic in Hinduism as an offering to the gods.

In front of the small stupa, on the way up to Monkey Temple.

Another view of the small stupas on the way up.
